🌱✨On #internationalgibbonday, we’re proud to celebrate the remarkable conservation efforts of two of our Certified Wildlife Friendly enterprises, Asho Chin Communities Association (ACCA), supported by @faunafloraint, and SwaraOwa, for their work to protect Gibbons!

Gibbons are critically endangered facing the threat of habitat loss due to deforestation…

…to combat this, ACCA is taking extraordinary steps to conserve the forest habitats where Western Hoolock Gibbons live. In collaboration with Fauna & Flora, the community-based conservation program in Myanmar’s Mann Wildlife Sanctuary landscape is using sustainable coffee production to protect both watershed forests and endangered gibbons. Since 2012, Fauna & Flora has worked with ACCA to reduce deforestation of gibbon habitats and promote coffee agroforestry as an alternative to harmful shifting cultivation.

Similarly, in Indonesia, @swaraowa SwaraOwa is taking action to protect the Javan Gibbon. An achievement embodying SwaraOwa’s #wildlifefriendly certification is its initiative to integrate biodiversity monitoring and protection practices within its #coffee production, enabling it to record an increase in the Javan gibbon population at their Central #java field site.

Learning Across Borders: A Glimpse into our Learning Exchange in Argentina

🇦🇷 Last week, WFEN’s Executive Director Christine Lippai participated in an incredible Learning Exchange in Argentina, joining global conservationists, researchers, and community members working on sustainable solutions (slide 1). Supported by the Regenerative Fund for Nature this event brought together diverse voices from grantees around the world to share knowledge on wildlife conservation, coexistence strategies, and sustainable livelihoods.

Here are some highlights of the Learning Exchange:

Conservationists from as far away as Mongolia, to India, Spain, France, and Argentina came to collaborate and learn from each other to address the challenge of land degradation associated with cashmere production.

Slide 3: Fieldwork and mapping: on-the-ground conservation efforts
Participants are detailing crucial wildlife corridors and land-use strategies that promote both ecological balance and community sustainability.

Slide 4: A guardian of livestock and wildlife
Trained to protect livestock from predators, this breed plays a key role in reducing human-wildlife conflict. By preventing attacks, the dog helps communities protect their livestock while allowing native predators like pumas to thrive without retaliation.

🐾 As we continue to work towards a world where business and conservation thrive together, events like this Learning Exchange play a crucial role in shaping our approach and expanding our impact.

Today, on World Cotton Day, Wildlife Friendly Enterprise Network (WFEN) can announce that we have received a grant from the Regenerative Fund for Nature to support our India Cotton Project in the Satpura-Pench Corridor. This initiative is a pioneering step in transforming cotton production through Regenerative + Wildlife Friendly®️ practices, safeguarding biodiversity and empowering local communities.

About the Project:
The Satpura-Pench Corridor is home to endangered species like the Bengal tiger, leopard, and sloth bear. However, cotton farming, a key livelihood in the region, has been putting pressure on these ecosystems. Our project will work with over 6,000 small-scale farmers to adopt regenerative practices that restore biodiversity, improve soil health, and reduce production costs by up to 30% through bio-inputs.

The area is a critical tiger corridor, and without intervention, linear infrastructure and habitat degradation would threaten both wildlife and local farming. By integrating sustainable land use and strengthening wildlife corridors, the project will protect not only tigers but also leopards, gaur, eagles, and essential pollinators.

WFEN is leading the project in close collaboration with:
•⁠ ⁠WWF-India, leveraging their conservation expertise and helping us develop authentic storylines that resonate with brands and consumers.
•⁠ ⁠COFE Producer Company Ltd, Certified Wildlife Friendly®️ for their cotton production, includes 900 women farmers and works with farmers to help them transition to organic & Regenerative production.

Why It Matters:
This project is not just about cotton—it's about “building economies to save ecologies”. By creating market linkages for Regenerative + Wildlife Friendly®️ cotton, we are proving that sustainable agriculture can benefit both people and the planet. The Cotton Project will serve as a flagship model for regenerative production practices, aligning with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework targets.

September is National Tiger Month in the U.S.!

🐯Tigers, one of the most majestic creatures on the planet, face an urgent threat. Across their habitats, they continue to be endangered by poaching, habitat loss, and illegal wildlife trade.

One shining example of global efforts to protect the species is the World Wildlife Fund’s Tigers Alive Initiative, which aims to double the number of tigers in the wild and increase the tiger population across the countries they reside in by 2034. This initiative mobilizes governments, conservation organizations, and local communities to tackle key threats like poaching and habitat loss while restoring tiger populations across 22 Asian landscapes. Through its ambitious vision, @world_wildlife_fund aims to halt the decline in tiger populations and ensure their numbers thrive again in the wild.
