What Are the Wildlife Friendly® Standards?

The Certified Wildlife Friendly® Global Standards offer a rigorous, science-based framework to ensure that production and sourcing practices protect wildlife, enhance ecosystems, and support the people who depend on them. Whether on wild lands or working lands, these standards create the conditions for people and nature to thrive together.

Our standards apply across geographies and sectors and are tailored to support responsible production, transparent supply chains, and wildlife-positive sourcing. Designed for both small-scale producers and global brands, they offer a credible path toward nature-positive impact.

Guiding Principles

Wildlife Conservation Ensure that land use, harvesting, and production do not threaten key species or habitats. The standards mitigate threats like habitat loss, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict.

Livelihoods & Communities Promote local stewardship by supporting culturally appropriate, inclusive, and fair economic opportunities for communities living alongside wildlife.

Regenerative Practices Encourage agricultural and harvesting systems that restore soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem resilience, reducing harm and enhancing ecological function over time.

Species-specific Standards:

Certified Gorilla Friendly® standards are available here. Certified Gorilla Friendly™ sets standards for producers and enterprises whose activities intersect with gorilla habitats, ensuring that their practices support the long-term survival of gorillas and promote sustainable coexistence with local communities.

Certified Jaguar Friendly® standards are available here. The Certified Jaguar Friendly® standards have been designed for landscapes where production practices maintain forest canopy to protect jaguars in agro-forestry landscapes, thus enabling connectivity and corridors for safe passage of this iconic species

Certified Elephant Friendly™ standards are available here. Certified Elephant Friendly products are sourced from tea estates that meet high standards for the protection of elephant habitat and water resources, reducing human-elephant conflict and mortality, and reducing barriers to elephant movement across their habitat.

Certified Guanaco Friendly™ Standards are available here and Certificación Guanaco Friendly™ disponible aquí. The Certified Guanaco Friendly™ Fiber standards have been designed for landscapes where wild guanacos roam freely and include recommendations for the live-shearing of wild guanacos. Adherence to these recommendations and respect for the welfare of wild guanacos during round-up, shearing, and release, will lead to certification of live-sheared guanaco fiber under the Certified Guanaco Friendly™ ecolabel.

Certified Andean Bear Friendly™ Standards are available here and Certificación Andean Bear Friendly™ disponible aquí. These Certified Andean Bear Friendly standards can be applied at both landscape and/or property (i.e. farm, ranch) level, and to different production practices and units. The Master Standards include overarching guidelines that must be met, as well as considerations for specific products.
